Our History
The Louisiana Finance Association (LFA) was founded in 1959, by a group of early credit pioneers who recognized the importance of unity within our industry. The purpose of the LFA is to promote the welfare and education of its members engaged in the personal loan business in the State of Louisiana.
As an association we maintain a strong legislative committee, whose function is to keep up with all proposed legislation, supporting laws that are beneficial to our industry and opposing those that are not. We are extremely involved in the political process to ensure that the elected officials are aware of the importance of our industry.
LFA has a Louisiana Independent Finance/Political Action Committee (L.I.F.P.A.C.) which is an independent, autonomous, non-partisan organization operating in compliance with State laws and regulations. L.I.F.P.A.C. was established to serve as political fund-raising arm of LFA to promote and directly support legislators concerned with the welfare of the consumer finance industry.
We employ the very best legal counsel for the association to keep our members abreast of changing legal issues and who will represent the association before regulatory bodies – both state and federal. With addition to legal counsel we have available the Louisiana Law Book that contains up-to-date legislation to The Louisiana Consumer Credit Law.
LFA continues to provide support and promote consumer educational programs, to emphasize the proper use of credit and to create a better public awareness of our industry. We continue to be the premier leader in knowledge and education not only for our members, but for the public as well.
The Association believes that communication among its members is beneficial to all of us. To further that goal, LFA holds an annual conference each year with informative meetings, exhibits, recreational activities and ample time for visiting with fellow members and conference sponsors. The association is also an affiliate member of the American Financial Services Association, which enables us to keep our members informed of laws, regulations and other matters occurring throughout the country, which are pertinent to our members.
As you can see, the Louisiana Finance Association is a strong and vital part of the consumer finance industry in Louisiana. In order to continue that leadership role, we need the input and support of all consumer finance lenders in the state.
